Mid Hudson Social Studies Council in Peril (07/03/2010)

Below, please find an excerpt from the Summer 2010 Newsletter from the Mid Hudson Social Studies Council.  Any and all help is greatly appreciated!

"I must be blunt...For several years a core group of six people [have done all the work]. Frankly we are tired and need new blood. Without new teachers stepping up to the plate to help with these events we will not be able to continue. Specifically, we will not be able to hold a conference this year....Our decision to take a hiatus will be based on attendance and commitment at the next few events [August 26, September 16, and September TBD]. If we do not have new faces ready to take an active role and make a definite commitment in the Council we will be forced to take a break. Don't let the Mid Hudson School Social Studies Council disband.

What We Do

The goal of the WLHCSS is to provide social studies practitioners with information and effective strategies to implement the New York State Standards and prepare for New York State assessments.

In this age of No Child Left Behind, the emphasis on literacy across the academic disciplines continues to challenge us, as social studies educators, to make significant adjustments in our daily classroom practices and upgrade our content knowledge.
